As an independent study project a my classmate and I wanted to design a large format 3D printer. It utilized a Core XY motion system for the extruder head and stepper driven ball screws for the bed. As an added goal, we ultimately wanted high speed X and Y travel for the extruder head so we used high quality linear blocks and rails for the gantry.
