I led the mechanical design process of a novel smart-handrail system that assists in the safe and expeditious emergency egress of the Amtrak East River Tunnels connecting the boroughs of Manhattan and Queens in New York City.

We are currently installing a 1.5 mile stretch of handrail in the first of two tunnels undergoing rehabilitation. Installation for tunnel #1 is set to be completed March 2026. Installation for tunnel #2 will begin thereafter.
